I've made this several times now and information technology's been a big striking every time. The all-time part is that it's sooo easy! For the inside of the ears I either apply pinkish strawberry icing or employ a little cerise food coloring with the white icing to make information technology pinkish, or sprinkle the ears with pinkish sugar crystals. Information technology comes out adorable no matter what you use!!

So easy, fun & adorable! My grandma has fabricated this cake for as long as I can retrieve. Now she's in CA & I'm in AZ so, following in her footsteps, I made my 1st bunny cake. I used funfetti cake & rainbow chip icing. Whoppers robin eggs for optics & nose, black licorice for whiskers, mouth & eyebrows. Pink sprinkles in the ears, dyed icing for the bow purple & put Easter sprinkles on it. I dyed flaked kokosnoot green to put around the bunny like grass, simply similar my grandma does. The only tough part was icing the sides where I had cutting the ears & bow-necktie, only a chip crumbly. I didn't have whatsoever trays long enough for the cake, and then I got foam affiche board, cut it to the correct size & covered it in clear, Easter decorated cellophane. It worked perfectly & held upward great. Afterward, I cleaned it off to re-use next year. *UPDATE: Don't know why I never thought of this before but since it'southward difficult to find anything big plenty to put this block on, I had to make something out of foam poster board just then I had to transport the block on information technology without annihilation covering it considering I didn't desire foil or saran wrap sticking to the frosting. I realized that a full-sheet cake box is long enough to put this cake in so, I went to the bakery at my grocery store & was able to purchase one for only a few dollars. Now I can put the cake in the box, close the top & transport it much easier!* This block was simpler than I expected & tons of fun. The possibilities are endless, employ your imagination!

It is a simple, fun, and easy mode to add together some cheer to Easter... the just thing I recommend is don't get overboard with the jelly beans when you are decorating... I'll upload a picture later. Ours isn't equally cute every bit the pic that's there- but nosotros (my mom, me and my 3 year erstwhile- how fun!) had a great time doing it! Plus, the recipe isn't 'fussy' (no need to worry well-nigh getting the icing perfect, etc) considering it'due south for the kids and information technology's merely FUN! My grandchildren decided the bunny had the chicken pox so they added M&M's to the face. Family does not care for coconut and so I simply used it on the ears.
04/08/2009

I use black writing frosting for the whiskers and eyes. And used coconut with some died pink for the ears. Will keep this recipe to brand next year. My 4 year one-time loved helping
03/06/2015
This cake was very easy to brand. I used dark-green food coloring to dye extra kokosnoot flakes for grass surrounding the bunny. 04/03/2018
Very like shooting fish in a barrel cake for Easter. I used a slightly larger dish for the bunny's face and an eight" dish for the ears. I plant a PDF template for the ears on the Internet and traced information technology when cutting out the ears. I put the ears in the freezer for several hours and afterwards was able to assemble and frost the entire bunny. Since this cake was meant for a toddler, I substituted blueberries for hard candy used for the eyes and mouth. Sprinkled kokosnoot flakes colored with green food dye forth the edges of the block. Although I had enough block left over, I didn't have room for the bow tie. I'll accept to get a bigger cookie canvas for next yr.
04/04/2016
I made this cake for a friend who asked me to go far for her grandson'due south first Easter. The chief face, I sliced it in the center and spread raspberry jam. I used almond extract instead of vanilla in the icing, yummy!!

03/27/2016
Such a fun & easy baking feel. I'd give it a 5th star, simply I made my own icing as non a fan of store bought. I fabricated the entire cake in 2 layers with icing in the middle. Each ear fabricated 4.5 servings so full servings effectually 17. It's and then cute & super long. 20" to be exact. Plan to embrace a cardboard box. Since I made icing that needed to exist refrigerated, I had to decorate just an hour before guests arrived because it's likewise long to fit into most refrigerators. Will enjoy this year afterwards twelvemonth.
05/04/2014
I've been making this cake over xx years. You tin use whatsoever cake and or frosting y'all want. Information technology was ever a tradition for me to make this for our Easter go togethers every bit a child. Always used string licorice for the whiskers which are hard to find. I ever secretly laughed at it as teenager since the shape is merely like the playboy bunny.
04/11/2020

06/10/2021

04/17/2022
I followed the cut out idea and made it out of two cakes from scratch : an apple tree cake covered with apricot marmalade to stick to the shredded coconut for the face and a blueberry lemon block covered with lemon icing and shredded coconut dyed pink for the inside of the ears and regular coconut for the rest of the bunny ears. I used blue dyed shredded coconut for the bowtie. On addition I used red licorice for the mouth and whiskers and jelly beans for the eyes and nose. It came out so adorably wonderful!
04/02/2013
adorable.
04/23/2019
I remembered making a Bunny Block years ago and couldn't quite think how to cut it. This ane turned out beautiful as can be. I used the decorating items I already had in the kitchen which didn't include string licorice. The piped icing whiskers and oral cavity didn't stick to the coconut as well well. I loved all the pictures other cooks had posted.
04/20/2017
We had such a Neat fourth dimension making this Easter bunny cake !!! After letting the 2 round cakes cool, I used a reviewer'due south advice and used a serrated knife to cutting the ears/bow-tie !! There were NO crumbs whatsoever by doing this !!! We made our own cream cheese frosting which was DELICIOUS !!! Our guests LOVED how cute this was when nosotros served information technology for dessert after Easter dinner. Put kokosnoot flakes into a ziploc amorphous, take one teaspoon of water with one drop of green dye in information technology, and throw it over the coconut flake in the ziploc purse..... toss the coconut flakes around, and you lot will have the 'green grass' to surround the bunny with !!! Nosotros likewise made pink coconut flakes for the bunny's ears, and royal coconut flake for the bunny's bow necktie !!! Absolutely a home run !!!! Thank you for this recipe !!! Baking this cake will be a tradition in our household every Easter !!!
03/30/2013
My mom used to make this cake with me dorsum in the 70'southward. I'm glad to be making with my kids now. What makes it better is to make the cake from scratch. This yr we made a half white bunny, half chocolate bunny and used nerds to decorate. This is a great project for kids, because there is just no wrong reply. This is always better with made from home frosting and block though. Try "heavenly white cake" from allrecipes and "best butter cream frosting 2". You'll be glad you did!
03/26/2016
my mom made this bunny cake for us when I was very piddling, every Easter. and Im 60 years old :) . I am not making it for my great grandson to bask. nosotros have used our imagination many times for the face up, sometimes you need to make do with what you lot take. e'er turns out crawly. we have always used the fluffy frosting ( egg whites, light kayro syrup & sugar )as it is much much easier to frost the cut edges without crumbs all over in the frosting.
04/04/2021
I had some extra cake & frosting, and so I made cake pop eyebrows & a nose to make it a scrap more than 3D. Information technology was a fun cake to make & decorate!
03/30/2021
Adorable. Like shooting fish in a barrel as well. My granddaughter thought it was super cute and ate the ears start!
